The Boyfriend

by Freida McFadden

Rating
4.0

Without giving spoilers, the story follows a young woman who meets what seems like the perfect man… until cracks start to show and things take a darker, more dangerous turn. What I loved was how McFadden slowly built up the tension—just when I thought I knew where the story was going, she pulled the rug out from under me.

The pacing was exactly what I wanted: quick chapters, plenty of cliffhangers, and revelations that kept me hooked. Some moments were a little over the top (in true McFadden fashion!), but that’s part of the fun. It’s messy, addictive, and the kind of book you’ll want to read in one sitting.

For me, The Boyfriend was an easy 4 stars—dark, twisty, and so entertaining. It’s another solid reminder of why Freida McFadden has become one of my go-to thriller authors.

Quotes

What a great meet-cute. I can already imagine telling the story to our children. This jerk was trying to kiss me, and that, kids, is how I met your father.
Great. Now I'm a flower murderer.
I don't need a hero. I just need a decent guy.
